summer, 1995

Summer gleamed through balloons: a soft yellow like ma’s nursing scrubs, a red, like fire, sparked and fueled, like pa's face, and a strange blue, like an anguished sky yet to be seen.

They bundled and bopped together, the balloons, in their hued transparency, their emptiness and fullness above me, attached around my little wrist with strings.
